Press Release

NJ District #1 Little League Umpire Dave Deckert selected to work the 2007 Big League World Series

Deckert’s prestigious selection marks the 8th World Series appearance by a NJ#1 Little League umpire … and the 4th in row!

Parsippany, NJ, April 17, 2006: NJ District #1 Little League’s Dave Deckert has been selected to umpire the 2006 Big League World Series in Easley, South Carolina, July 28 – August 4. The Big League World Series features some of the very best 16-18 year old ballplayers in the country – many who could be playing pro baseball some day.

Dave is the 7th umpire overall to be assigned to a Little League World Series (8 total appearances), and is also stands as NJ District #1’s fourth World Series appearance in a row – a truly outstanding achievement. The other NJ District #1 umpires to have worked a Little League World Series are:

Nick Solowey (‘81 - Senior League)

Nick Cicak (’04 - Big League)

George Dabinett (‘98 - Senior League)

Tom Reynolds (’05 - Big League)

Jack Conway (’93 - Big; ’98 - Little League)

Chris Graham (’06 - Senior League)

Dave began umpiring Little League baseball in roughly 1990, starting out being "drafted" from the stands to umpire his young son’s games in the Parsippany Little League. Today Dave regularly umpires all levels of Little League baseball and softball, along with youth league, high school, American Legion and some college level baseball.

Dave’s now entering his 17th season of Little League umpiring, and has worked at virtually every level of LL baseball and softball, including these other upper-level Little League tournaments: East Region Little League (2002, plate umpire for ESPN title game), NJ Little League State (’00), Senior LL States (’03) and 9/10 and Junior States in Softball.

Dave actually credits last year’s NJ #1 World Series umpire Chris Graham with encouraging his interest in Little League umpiring, urging him to get more involved in developing his interest and skills. He also credits District Administrator Nick Solowey and Umpire Consultant Jack Conway as being his mentors in building his skill and confidence in Little League umpiring.

Dave is also a senior member of the NJ District #1 Little League’s Umpire Instruction staff, assisting other members of the District’s umpiring staff in training and development of new Little League umpires.
